[2]\nSignificance: September 15 marks the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica\, El Salvador\, Guatemala\, Honduras\, and Nicaragua\, with Mexico\, Chile\, and Belize celebrating theirs immediately after. [3]\nBackground: Started as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 by President Lyndon B. Johnson and expanded to a 30-day period by President Ronald Reagan in 1988. [4]
