This summer Boston proudly commemorated America’s 250th anniversary with a season of unforgettable events celebrating the people, places, and moments that shaped a nation.
More than 60 majestic Tall Ships sailed into Boston Harbor, bringing a spectacular display of maritime history and free public events to Boston’s waterfront neighborhoods. Special guests Lainey Wilson, Chance The Rapper, and Trombone Shorty performed at the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular.
Boston embraced the world’s passion for soccer as excitement surrounding FIFA World Cup 2026™ brought thousands of international visitors. The energy of Scotland’s famous Tartan Army, alongside supporters from Norway, France, and enthusiastic Boston residents cheering on Morocco, Haiti and Cabo Verde filled Boston’s streets with music, culture, and camaraderie, showcasing the city’s welcoming spirit and global appeal.
Museum of Fine Arts Boston introduced its reimagined 18th century Art of the Americas galleries where you can see Gilbert Stuart’s portrait of George Washington (the1796 likeness was the model for the face printed on millions of dollar bills!), a silver Sons of Liberty Bowl made by Paul Revere, alongside works by Native American and Indigenous artists. While you won’t find a Dunkin’ in Boston’s North End, there is a Dunkin’ cup on display in Something’s Brewing, a gallery focused on tea, coffee, and chocolate.
Boston’s evolving downtown also tells a more complete story through public art, including The Embrace honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, and Harmonia Rosales’s Unbound a magnificent bronze sculpture at King’s Chapel’s Memorial to Enslaved Persons.
LEGO Discovery Center Boston has been completely reimagined with immersive exhibits and creative building challenges that encourage problem-solving, teamwork, and engineering skills. View Boston offers breathtaking 360-degree views alongside interactive exhibits and educational programming.
Students face the future at the MIT Museum, where hands-on exhibits explore robotics, holograms. AI, and engineering. At Museum of Science an exciting transformation will introduce new exhibits and interactive learning spaces designed to inspire the next generation of innovators.
Holocaust Museum Boston will open in spring 2027 in a prime location on the Freedom Trail, creating another bold Boston space for education, reflection, and civic engagement.
