Broadway Hits Perfect for Student Groups

June 25, 2024

Broadway just wrapped the busiest season in two decades and several shows playing to sold-out houses across Times Square took home coveted awards.

On 45th Street, the winner of the 2024 Tony Award for Best Musical, student and teacher favorite THE OUTSIDERS, has taken Broadway by storm! Adapted from S.E. Hinton’s seminal novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic film, THE OUTSIDERS features a book by Adam Rapp with Justin Levine, music and lyrics by Jamestown Revival (Jonathan Clay & Zach Chance) and Justin Levine, music supervision, arrangements & orchestrations by Justin Levine, choreography by Rick Kuperman & Jeff Kuperman and directed by Danya Taymor. Like the novel, THE OUTSIDERS is already a “new classic” on Broadway, perfect for student groups.

Across the street, at the iconic Imperial Theatre, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS earned 4 Drama Desk awards, the most of any musical this season! Awards for the New York Times Critic’s Pick include Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical, Outstanding Fight Choreography, and Outstanding Puppetry. Based on the bestselling novel about a young man who, after losing what matters most to him, jumps on a moving train and finds a new home with the remarkable crew of a traveling circus, WATER FOR ELEPHANTS is the quintessential choice for groups of all ages!

Eight blocks up Broadway, the party is roaring eight times a week as THE GREAT GATSBY brings F. Scott Fitzgerald’s seminal novel to new heights in this Tony-winning production. Starring Broadway favorites Jeremy Jordan (Newsies) and Eva Noblezada (Hadestown), the musical recently racked up several Broadway.com Audience Choice Awards including Favorite New Musical, Best Actor in a Musical, and Best Actress in a Musical. Adding to their collection, costume designer Linda Cho won the Tony Award for Best Costume Design of a Musical! A staple of syllabuses across the country THE GREAT GATSBY is a perfect addition to any student trip.

Back down in Shubert Alley (between 44th and 45th Streets), HELL’S KITCHEN received the most Tony Award nominations of any musical this season with a whopping 13 nominations, winning for Best Actress and Best Featured Actress in a Musical. There’s a place where the rhythm of the city is music, where every corner has a story, and every window is a kaleidoscope. Where a girl can step out of her apartment and find a whole world of possibilities waiting. That’s HELL’S KITCHEN, a new musical created by 15-time Grammy® Award winner Alicia Keys that’s making Broadway feel brand new.
