The Manitoba Museum’s collections reflect the heritage of Manitoba and other regions of the world. Our nine interpretive galleries explore the interrelationship of people and their environment. Highlights include the Nonsuch, a full-size 17th-century sailing vessel, and the Urban Gallery, which takes you back in time to Winnipeg during the 1920s. The Planetarium features interactive multimedia shows that recreate the current night sky, explore various hot topics in astronomy, and highlight the latest space discoveries. Fort Gibraltar

Originally built at the confluence of the Red River and Assiniboine River in 1809-1810, Fort Gibraltar was a North West Company trading post. Fort Gibraltar played a crucial role in the development of the Red River Colony and in the conflict between the North West Company and the Hudson’s Bay Company, early fur trade rivals.The reconstructed Fort Gibraltar is located in Saint-Boniface, Winnipeg’s French quarter, on the banks of the Red River. The fort is a 20 minute walk or 5 minute ride away from Downtown. Visit Fort Gibraltar and learn about Winnipeg’s rich fur-trade history and relations between voyageurs, fur-trade companies and Indigenous Peoples. Engage with interpreters in the trading post, the workshop, the forge, the warehouse or the winterer’s cabin and learn about life in the Red River Colony in the early 19th century.
