Delegates will be shuttled back to their hotels following the tours.
Tour 1: Battle of the Furs – 8:00AM – 2:30PM
Registration Fee: $35
See western Canada’s fur trade come to life at the Manitoba Museum where you can board a replica 17th century ship that transported furs from Hudson Bay to England. Then, see where the furs were stored at Lower Fort Garry National Historic Site, as costumed interpreters regale you with tales of how the fur trade was integral to the development of western Canada. Come meet the Governor and trade for goods from England! Lunch is included on the tour.
Tour 2: The Science of Flight – 8:00AM – 2:30PM

Feel tiny feathers flutter in the palm of your hand before releasing a newly banded songbird into the wild at Oak Hammock Marsh, a vibrant wetland and important ecosystem you can explore in a Voyageur canoe. Then learn about the science of flight at the Royal Aviation Museum of Western Canada, which showcases the region’s remarkable aviation history and aims to inspire future explorers of the sky. Lunch is included on the tour.
Tour 3: Monuments, Mystery and Money – 8:00AM – 12:00PM

Prepare to be captivated on a Hermetic Code Tour as the meaning behind the statues, numerology, hieroglyphics and architecture of the Manitoba Legislative Building are revealed–you decide if it is a King Solomon’s Temple reincarnate! Then, cash-out at the worldly Royal Canadian Mint, where you’ll see how billions of circulation coins are produced for more than 75 countries within this state-of-the-art facility.
Tour 4: Indigenous Ingenuity – 8:00AM – 12:30PM

Discover how bison influenced the history of Manitoba and the lives of the Indigenous people while savouring wild bush tea and bannock over a campfire at FortWhyte Alive, Winnipeg’s stunning nature reserve. Then, discover the world’s largest collection of contemporary Inuit art at the Winnipeg Art Gallery-Qaumajuq, where you can see it displayed in the new visible art vault.
Tour 5: A Journey from Darkness to Light – 1:00PM – 4:30PM

Go back thousands of years with Parks Canada as costumed interpreters transport you through different eras of The Forks–an ancient gathering place that is now Winnipeg’s most-popular tourist attraction. The Forks is also home to the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, a marvel of modern architecture which is solely dedicated to the evolution, celebration, and future of human rights. Embark on a journey from darkness to light as you ascend galleries that utilize interactive new media displays and artifacts to tell stories of heartbreak and triumph.
Tour 6: Saint-Boniface, where it’s cool to say Bonjour! – 1:00PM – 4:30PM

Discover the old-world charm of Saint-Boniface, the largest francophone community west of the Great Lakes. This vibrant community has a colourful history of exploration, courage, conflict and perseverance. Discover its roots at Fort Gibraltar–home to costumed interpreters, then learn about the life of the Métis and French-Canadian peoples at the Saint-Boniface Museum before visiting the stunning Saint-Boniface Cathedral, the former head of Catholic churches in western Canada.
Tour 7: Life Grows at the Leaf – 1:00PM – 4:30PM

The Leaf – Canada’s Diversity Gardens is an eye-catching horticultural attraction that is the first and only garden in North America to tell cultural stories through the world of plants. Inside The Leaf itself, explore the Mediterranean and tropical biomes, before heading to the top of the conical building to experience the butterfly garden, all while Canada’s largest indoor waterfall fills the air with mist and the tranquil sounds of rushing water.
Tour 8: Shop ‘Til You Drop – 1:00PM – 4:30PM

As you head to the Outlet Collection Winnipeg–an indoor shopping extravaganza with more than 100 retail stores and restaurants–enjoy a city tour by Winnipeg Trolley Company brimming with stories of heroic voyageurs and architecture that will showcase how Winnipeg was once referred to as the “Chicago of the North.”
Tour 9: Building a Bus Experience – 8:00AM – 2:30PM
Registration Fee: No Charge
A unique experience to see firsthand how motorcoaches are built. It is not well known, but Winnipeg is home to world-leading motorcoach and bus manufacturing. In this fascinating tour, we learn how MCI (Motor Coach Industries) coaches are made to become the exceptional travelling component on your tours. The factory is just a short distance from your hotel (Fort Garry) and key executives from MCI will show you the marvel of engineering. There will be an opportunity to sit behind the driver’s seat and you will come away with a greater appreciation of what really is offered in safety and comfort for your customers. MCI and SYTA partner IMG will also be participants in what will be a most interesting tour.
All tours will be confirmed by May 1, 2023. A Know Before You Go email will go out to all registered for sightseeing tours. All proceeds from the tours go to the SYTA Youth Foundation and are non-refundable.
