Expanded Museum at Gateway Arch National Park
The highly anticipated renovation and expansion of the Museum at the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, Missouri, is now complete and open for visitors. A place full of history and architecture, the museum has no shortage of opportunities for your student groups to admire the beauty of St. Louis while learning more about its paramount role in the westward expansion of the United States.
Get an inside look at the history of the Gateway Arch by stepping in the shoes of those who helped create it, see models of what the iconic Arch could have ended up looking like (instead of the image we’re so familiar with) and more. Students can follow the story of the Native Americans, explorers, pioneers and rebels who made America possible.
With the museum expansion comes a space increase of about 50 percent. And while some museum features have remained, there’s now the addition of some never-before-seen aspects—including artifacts that date back to the 1840s, uncovered during the excavation for the expanded museum.
The museum and its six exhibits are designed to be universally accessible, providing a path for it to be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. Tactile models of exhibits and artifacts have been installed so those who are visually impaired can touch and learn, those in wheelchairs can get around comfortably, and multimedia interactive stations allow children to further discover the history of St. Louis.
