Have a Field Day at the Field Museum

February 15, 2021

One of the largest natural history museums in the world sits in downtown Chicago, and it’s perfect for student groups.

Whether you’re visiting in-person or attending one of the many virtual events, the Field Museum has millennia of natural history to offer.

If you head to the museum with your students, you’ll see a huge variety of exhibitions, ranging from Africa, established in 1993, to the special Apsáalooke Women and Warriors, running into July. Or you can learn about ancient Egypt, or the Ese’Eja people of the Amazon, or animal biology.

There are more than a dozen different exhibitions here, including the star of the show, SUE the T. Rex. This real fossil is 90% complete and gives an amazing idea of what it would be like to encounter one of these deadly dinosaurs in real life.

Of course, even if you’re not traveling at the moment, the Field Museum has tons of virtual events. A popular one is the SUE the T. Rex virtual tour, but you can also check out Meet a Scientist, every Wednesday, and Discovery Adventures, a free series taking viewers on interactive, educator-led adventures from the museum.

If you want to show your students a good time while learning lots of fun facts, the Field Museum is here for you. Head to fieldmuseum.org to see all the options available to you and your students.
