Have You Registered as a Student Tour Operator in Florida?
In addition to registering as a seller of travel, SYTA members who work with Florida schools are encouraged to register as a student tour operator with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS).
“Student tour operator” is a special designation under the seller of travel law. Student tour operators must first be registered as a seller of travel and then meet additional insurance requirements.
Sellers of travel who wish to function as a student tour operator are required to file annually with FDACS, provide proof that they meet the additional insurance requirements, and maintain a current Level 2 security clearance with the Florida Department of Education (FLDOE).
A list of registered student tour operators is available on FLDOE’s website. For more information on the requirements for registering as a student tour operator with FDACS, click here. You can download an application here.
SYTA is not aware of additional regulations by FLDOE requiring schools to use a tour operator registered with FDACS, but is following the issue and appreciates any information you can share with us.
