Lessons Come to Life in Sevierville, Tennessee

January 26, 2021

Located in the foothills of Great Smoky Mountains National Park, many of Sevierville’s attractions offer curriculum compliant programs as well as opportunities to see textbook lessons come to life in real world applications.

Where can students delve into science?
Great Smoky Mountains National Park is an international biosphere reserve, the world’s center of diversity for lungless salamanders, and an All-Taxa BioDiversity Inventory site (scientists are inventorying the 100,000 species believed to live in the park and citizens can get involved too). Ranger and teacher led curriculum-based programs are also available that focus on science, history and culture. Find teacher resources here: http://www.nps.gov/grsm/forteachers/index.htm

Then get a lesson in biology at Rainforest Adventures, a zoo focused on conservation, preservation and education. Hour-long educational programs can also be specially arranged for your group.

How about history?
Sevierville offers several unique opportunities to explore history. Hold (and purchase) real historical artifacts at The Relic Room, located inside Smoky Mountain Knife Works. Then enjoy a walking tour in downtown Sevierville and snap a few photos with the iconic Dolly Parton statue (Sevierville is her hometown). Other historical attractions offer up-close views of iconic warbird aircraft, classic cars, and more.
