These Airports Have the Best and Worst TSA Security Wait Times

While giving yourself enough time at the airport is always a smart choice, it can be difficult to predict exactly how much time groups do—or don’t—need. A new study conducted by Upgraded Points breaks down which of the 25 most traveled airports have the best and worst wait times to help your travels proceed without any hiccups.

BEST AVERAGE WAIT TIMES

  1. Salt Lake City International (SLC) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays from 6 – 7 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 9.1 minutes.
  2. Washington Dulles International (IAD) | The best time to travel is on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 10.5 minutes.
  3. Boston Logan International (BOS) | The best time to travel is on Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 10.6 minutes.
  4. Minneapolis-St. Paul International (MSP) | The best time to travel is on Saturdays from 8 – 9 p.m., with an overall average wait time of 13 minutes.
  5. TIE: Charlotte Douglas International (CLT) and Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) | The best time to travel out of CLT is on Wednesdays from 4 -5 a.m., while the best time to travel out of DTW is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 – 11 p.m. Both have an overall average wait time of 13.2 minutes.

 

WORST AVERAGE WAIT TIMES

  1. Newark Liberty International (EWR) | The best time to travel is on Fridays from 10 – 11p.m., with an overall average wait time of 23.1 minutes.
  2. George Bush Intercontinental (IAH) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays from 5 – 6 a.m., with an overall average wait time of 19.8 minutes.
  3. Miami International (MIA) | The best time to travel is on Sundays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 19.6 minutes.
  4. Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) | The best time to travel is on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10 – 11 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 18.2 minutes.
  5. McCarran International (LAS) | The best time to travel is on Tuesdays from 6 – 7 p.m., with an average overall wait time of 17.3 minutes.
