Tourism Policy Council Producing New National Travel and Tourism Strategy

February 9, 2022

The Tourism Policy Council and the U.S. Department of Commerce are working on a new National Travel and Tourism Strategy to replace the original strategy written a decade ago, in 2012.

They’re seeking input from the travel industry through the formal Federal Register process, available here. The goal of the new Strategy is to improve the competitive position of the United States in attracting international visitors and to increase travel and tourism to promote economic growth and job creation across the United States over the next five years.

According to the Federal Register, “a new strategy can provide a whole-of-government approach to accelerating full recovery and employment in the travel and tourism sector; restoring U.S. competitiveness in the sector by encouraging more travelers to come to the United States; spreading the economic benefits of travel and tourism across the United States, especially to underserved communities and populations; and preparing the sector for the effects of climate change.”
