Best of the Best: The Empire State Building Observatory Experience

August 18, 2025

The Empire State Building Observatory Experience features an interactive museum with nine galleries –which highlight the landmark from its innovative construction to its current place in pop culture – and offers unmatched views from its iconic 86th and 102nd Floor Observatories. The Observatory Experience was recently ranked the #1 top attraction in New York City in Tripadvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Awards: Best of the Best Things to Do for the fourth consecutive year.

EDUCATION CENTER

The reimagined Observatory Experience provides complimentary interactive lesson plans for student group visits to the building, in partnership with Bank Street College of Education. The curriculum follows New York State Learning Standards for STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) and social studies and features grade-appropriate learning plans and enrichment activities for elementary, middle, and high school students. Groups can continue to learn after their visit with ESB’s online education center.

STEAM

Science and Technology

Explore the technology and innovation that makes the Empire State Building one of today’s most advanced skyscrapers.

Engineering

The Empire State Building shines as a feat of engineering and global icon of human design. This program will teach the significance of how simple machines, laws of force, and carefully selected materials created this New York City landmark.

Arts

Discover the beauty and power of the iconic Empire State Building through an artistic lens. Students will learn Visual Thinking Strategies, concepts of perspective, and how to examine photography.

Mathematics

Students will learn about some of the large numbers that exist within the walls of the Empire State Building – from floor counts to staircases – and understand how to use these metrics in everyday problem solving.

SUSTAINABILTY

Innovation, engineering, and experience powered ESB’s energy efficiency retrofit, which transformed the building into one of today’s most efficient historic landmarks. Despite being more than 94 years old, the building is in the top 20% or better of all Class A commercial assets in the nation.

CHOIR GROUPS

ESB invites approved choir groups of up to 60 members for iconic performances at the Observatory’s Grand Staircase, with an electric piano and music stand provided. Choir members will enjoy access to the immersive museum and 86th Floor Observatory included in their tickets.
