Dive Deep with Georgia Aquarium
Kids always love getting up-close with ocean life, but Georgia Aquarium goes the extra mile to provide special opportunities to student groups.
This aquarium in Atlanta is home to hundreds of species and thousands of animals across more than 11 million gallons of water. Their school programs provide opportunities for students to discover the aquatic realm in an immersive, standards-based learning environment.
You can go with a standard field trip, led by you the teacher, exploring all the aquarium has to offer on your own time. Or throw in an Instructor-Led Program, with tons of options to choose from.
These are short programs, just 30-45 minutes, and they cover a wide range of topics, such as tide and moon phases for 5th graders and aquarium veterinary care for high schoolers. Other programs cover sound, pollution, ocean habitats, reproduction and so much more.
If you can’t make it to the aquarium, go for an Outreach program, in which educators will bring a variety of engaging activities that focus on subjects such as technology and STEAM, arts and crafts and facilitate live animal experiences to connect your students with the world’s oceans. Programs are aligned with Georgia Standards of Excellence and are structured for the appropriate grade level of your students. If you’re lucky, you can even get a creature brought to class!
And finally, for those even further away, check out the Virtual Field Trips. Even here, you have multiple options, whether you’d like a live virtual conversation or a pre-recorded virtual experience diving into the depths of the aquarium—with activities included, of course.
However you’d like your students to experience the majestic marine life of Georgia Aquarium, the options are certainly there.
