The Capital Wheel Adds Learning and Fun to a D.C. Itinerary
Located just minutes from Washington’s D.C.’s museums and monuments, National Harbor gives groups the opportunity to stroll tree-lined streets filled with shops, restaurants and outdoor art such as J. Seward Johnson II’s massive and awe-inspiring sculpture, “The Awakening” emerging from the Potomac River’s sandy beach.
Adjacent to the beach, East Pier leads groups to the Capital Wheel, a large-scale observation wheel that delivers thrilling views of the Washington, D.C., area.
Seated in comfortable eight-passenger, climate-controlled gondolas, visitors enjoy a spectacular view of the entire National Harbor boardwalk and beyond.
Student groups can arrange a guided tour or simply request teacher resources—available on the Capital Wheel website—empowering students to learn about math, engineering, history and geography. Guides are available for middle school and high school students, plus there is a special guide for scouts.
Open 365 days a year, the Capital Wheel is perfect for groups of all ages. Rain or shine, it’s always a comfortable 72 degrees inside the climate-controlled gondolas. Evening visitors are treated to a stunning light display on the Capital Wheel that can be custom programmed to honor school colors or celebrate special events.
Younger travelers may also enjoy the carousel, which can be booked alone or as a package with tickets to the Capital Wheel.
While not required, advance reservations are recommended and group discounts are available from the Group Sales office at 301.857.0145.
