The Franklin Institute: A Gathering Place for Thinkers and Tinkerers Alike
One of the oldest and one of the premier centers of science education and development in the United States, the Franklin Institute was founded in 1824 and designed to inspire a passion for science in the spirit and honor of American scientist Benjamin Franklin. Read more about the ways your student group can explore the Institute.
The Franklin Institute offers an array of STEM-focused events and exhibits including Your Brain, the signature walk-through “Giant Heart,” the Fels Planetarium, an IMAX Theater, Sky Bike—the only high wire bike on the East Coast and the second in the United States, escape rooms, virtual reality experiences and much more. There’s no shortage of “electricity” in the building with hands-on learning experiences that introduce and reinforce key science concepts in creative and engaging ways.
The Franklin Institute’s group options accommodate all sizes, year-round. While the museum offers enough programming and exhibits for an entire day visit, most groups stay between 2.5 and five hours, with groups of 15 or more qualifying for at least a 26 percent discount. Group meal options, designed to fit all budgets and dietary preferences, include options to bring your own and purchase on-site.
The North American premiere of Vikings: Beyond the Legend will be on view at the Franklin Institute October 13, 2018, through March 3, 2019—telling the story of brave warriors who set sail in search of new land. Students can explore more than 600 authentic archaeological relics that reveal the story of the Viking warriors who sailed from Scandinavia a thousand years ago across the sea. The exhibit meets features an accompanying IMAX® film, Vikings: Journey to the New World. See The Franklin Institute for more information.
